1) Abstract

The study investigates the attitudes and perceptions of Greek media workers towards foreigners, as well as the factors that influence and shape the policy of media institutions towards the foreigners. It uses both a survey analysis methodology applied to 1000 media workers and semi-structured questionnaires with 20 media directors and editors in chief. It concludes by highlighting that the news content identifies immigrants with the violence and deviant behaviors, whilst the way of presenting them is characterized as exaggerated. Finally, the study refers to the fact that the working conditions and the policies implemented by Greek media institutions play negative role in constructing the social portray/image of immigrants in Greece.
