Media for Diversity and Migrant Integration

Short introduction to the MEDIVA bibliographic database

The MEDIVA bibliographic database presents more than 250 most recent studies (from 2000 onwards) and documents published in eight EU languages (Bulgarian, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Polish) which assess the capacity of the European media (including, press, TV, radio, internet) to reflect diversity and promote migrant integration.

The database is organized into five thematic areas: contents of migrant-related news, news making and programme production practices, recruitment, employment and training procedures.

Through the literature review researchers were guided by the quality of the work. Texts were only taken from academic publishers, peer-reviewed journals or research institutes. MA theses and doctoral theses were included in the lesser known languages where there were very few other studies on the topic. The literature was gathered using existing databases, literature databases such as SSCI, library catalogues, inter-library loan systems and through visits to libraries and other institutions.
